Even though the interface status shows “up, line protocol is up,” you might need to perform additional tasks for router-to-router communication to take place (such as assigning an IP address). The interface status indicates whether Data Link layer communications are enabled. However, most networking tasks occur at higher layers (Network through Application layers).
